![]() Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong were both renowned for their voices and improvisational use in the form of scat singing. Ella was often referred to as The Queen of Jazz and was notorious for her pure tones and clear phrasing, whilst Louis was known as the Great Sachmo and used his deep gravel scat singing in contrast to Ella. The duo toured and released albums together and were close friends but not romantically linked.

![]() Toulouse Lautrec frequented the hotels, bars and clubs of Paris in the late 19th century and captured in paint and print the famous dancers, singers and clientele of the often raunchy venues such as the Moulin Rouge. He was apt at depicting atmosphere and vibrancy by using line and flat colour and his prints were used to advertise shows, books and theatre productions.
