From the Lautrec Series. My influence for this painting was Lautrec's The Passenger from cabin 54 painted in 1896. I liked the idea of taking the rather formally dressed lady relaxing in her deckchair and giving her a trumpet and bright coloured clothes to 'Jazz' her up. I was imagining an introduction of Jazz to the Women's Institute during the Edwardian period and what their reaction would have been to the 'Devil's Music.'
