The dragonfly brooch and birdcage earring are drawn directly from her lyrics, emblems of transformation, freedom and the soul's unbreakable will. Set against a warm African inspired pattern, Nina's skin is textured with layers of copper, bronze and green, her expression introspective and tinged with melancholy, part sorrow, part strength, part defiance mirroring the emotional complexity that defined Nina Simone herself.
